The list of questions can appear endless. Hopefully this article will pick up a few of the key questions you may have about a hot tub selection, purchase and maintenance.
If choosing a hot tub leaves you bewildered, don’t worry, you are not alone. Almost everybody who decides to have a hot tub at their house has to go through the maze.
To start with, buyers are often not clear of all the hot tub options available, and to help make this first step a little easier, we would suggest you know how many people will be using it at one time, and if you have enough space to physically locate the size of hot tub you require.
When you know the size of the hot tub you require, we can then advice you better on the various price options available to match your budget. Once installed, you cannot keep changing your hot tub, so it is of high importance that you select a hot tub, which will accommodate all your needs and not just the number of people.
Because there are so many hot tub accessories and jazzy options, it is easy to get over excited and purchase things you will rarely use once the novelty wears off. The real reason for a hot tub is to have a massage, relax and wind down, so before you buy,
a. Have you actually been for a soak in a hot tub?
b. Did your friends / family join you and share their opinions with you?
c. Which features do you really need, and which ones would be nice, but not essential?
d. How often would you use the hot tub?
e. If outdoors, would you still use it in the winter?
More importantly, don’t forget the basic functionality – it’s a hot tub.
Portable hot tubs (spas) are another consideration. Technology is advancing fast and the improvements are quite apparent when it comes to hot tubs. Portable hot tubs as available in the marketplace are lightweight, with all electrical, filtering and heating systems, contained within. So it is quite easy to move and comparatively simple to use.
Coming over to the usage now, a vital aspect is cleanliness of the hot tub water. Hot tub hygiene and how to clean the water or what chemicals are necessary or spa drain and refill procedure are frequently asked.
A hot tub can remain clean for weeks, but there are things you can do you make this last even longer. Like buy the correct cover to keep the dirt out, which will also serve well to keep the heat in (far more useful than an expensive novelty gadget).
So when it comes to the frequency of hot tub draining and refill, relax you won’t be doing it each time you want to use it. But in normal usage, it is fine to repeat the process about 5/6 times a year. Draining the hot tub is a very simple and easy process. Just ensure that before you start emptying the thermostat, jets and power is switched off.
Most hot tubs will have the bottom drain feature and thus by attaching a garden hose, you should be able to do it easily. Once empty, cleaning is obviously extremely important. Any carelessness of this account could invite a host of health issues. So along with the chemical products you use, apply ozone purification as well. Check with us for which chemicals are required and how often, plus advice on safe hot tub chemical storage.
Keep a check on the water balance you maintain, or else this could lead to irritation and / or equipment damage. All our hot tubs include a comprehensive instruction manual plus our own personal after sales care and support.
One of the factors we have not mentioned here, and which we have no control, is your water. A hot tub water kit will help determine the pH level and calcium hardness details. Soft water could prove acidic and thus lead to corrosion, and hard water can build up lime scale deposits, but this issue is not as hazardous and can be treated easily.
In conclusion, a hot tub is about having fun, find the time to relax and enjoy alone or with friends, with the minimum of fuss, labour or cost.
