Princess Cut Diamond Rings Are Brilliant And Beautiful

Princess cut diamond rings are designed to represent the ultimate in opulence and sophistication. The stones used in these rings are second most popular style on the market. The only style that is more popular than this is the brilliant round cut. The square face of the princess cut diamonds provides a very regal appearance.

There are few stones that look more grand and valuable than a princess cut diamond. Below the face of the stone it appears to be an inverted pyramid, which helps accent the face of the diamond. This style of cutting is relatively new but has gained popularity in a big way. The first princess cut diamonds were created in the 1960s.

The way that a princess cut is created requires more are than a round ring in order to create the same size on the face, which is referred to as the crown. However a princess cut will usually be less expensive than a round when comparing them for apparent size and having all other quality issues being the same. The reason for this is that the princess cut retains over 80 percent of its rough finish while the round is 50 percent smoothened.

The faceting of this style of cut is unique and provides a much different appearance than the round brilliant. This faceting makes the princess look much more brilliant than a round cut. Which gives the impression of being a more expensive stone than it really is.

While the term ideal cut is used by many jewelers there is actually no universal definition of what qualifies as the ideal cut of a princess cut diamond. The specifications of the ideal cut will vary from one jeweler to another. The term ideal refers to the measurements of the diamond.

When shopping for princess cut diamond rings there are some things that you should take into consideration. Naturally you will want to find the best ring for your money and finding this exact stone could be time consuming and might be confusing if you are not trained in diamonds.

If you want assistance with this process there are services that offer to help you find the perfect diamonds. These services will shop through hundreds of diamonds in search of the stone that meats the specifications you request then they supply you with a list of 4 or 5 stones. Typically these services do not make any money off of you but rather make a commission from the jeweler when they sell you a ring.

However even with a service helping you, you will do well to become educated in what makes a princess cut diamond better than another. The first thing you should look for is the color. You should try to find a stone that has a color of I or better. However to stay reasonably affordable you should stay with an H or I color.

The next thing to consider when comparing princess cut diamond rings is the clarity of the stone. Again you will want to get a stone that is clear but not rated so high that it is rated right out of the reasonable price range. A VS2 or SL1 will typically get you a stone of decent clarity without be too expensive. You also want the depth of the stone to be about 65 to 75% and the table should be less than 75%, with a length to width ratio being 1.0 to 1.05.
