The Magic Of A Leprechaun Costume On St. Patrick’s Day

In our house every year, we do leprechaun traps in order to catch ourselves a small leprechaun and acquire his pot of gold. My children enjoy this tradition each year. At the start of February, after Valentine’s Day has passed, they start to go over the layout of their traps and the way they intend to construct them this year. This year my three-year-old son wished to dress up in a leprechaun outfit to test if he could deceive the leprechaun straight into getting him his gold.  So, we set up building the appropriate leprechaun costume, hoping it could just do the trick.

March 17th Sleeping In Leprechaun Costumes

March 17th arrives and we get ready for bedtime, traps have been arranged in the playroom and both boys are positive that their traps is going to be successful. I put on the orange hair gel to their hair, thinking about all of the laundry I will have tomorrow. The boys are giggling with delight, so certain that they have tricked the leprechaun. I dress them in the bright green sweatshirts and socks and bring them into bed. We express our prayers and take a couple of seconds to go over the possibilities of what might happen if we truly do catch an actual leprechaun. I kiss both of my small leprechauns goodnight, leprechaun outfits and all, and switch off the lights.

He Got Away Once Again…

March 18, the kids get out of bed and run outside their room. I hear them coming along the hallway into my room, waking me up to get me stand to check the traps with them; I smile since I love these memories.  We all walk together walking down the stairs, the kids are the quietest I have ever heard them; they talk silently that they’re listening to hear the leprechaun.

As we enter the room, small green footprints are spotted crossing the table from one part to the other, the traps are misaligned and gold chocolate coins are distributed around the traps and tabletop.  “Oh Mom, he escaped once more this year.” I smile down at both of them, “Perhaps next year we will get him kids, possibly next year”.
