How much is old fruit jars worth? Antiques?

Found 1920 Circa jar, Blue Bristo jar serial # 2285, 1930 Peanut butter jar, 1/2 gallon sure seal with glass lid, jars with glass and zinc lids.
Any ideal on the worth of these jars? What does one do with something like this?

Unless they are really old, they are probably worth as little as $15 to $20. However, because they have lids, some may be worth a bit more. My estimate is based on similar jars sold at estate sales I’ve attended. Some go for as little as a dollar a jar, but that depends some on condition.

If you think they are more special than that, take them to an antique dealer in your area and ask for an appraisal. It’s also possible that you could find comparable items there or on line to get a more accurate price.

People use them to store collectibles like marbles or small collections of trinkets, pebbles, or shells for display. The various oddball collections look more unified if they are in the old jars, and add a nice “down home” touch. I kept dried flowers from my wedding in an Atlas jar with a glass lid for nearly 30 years. Southern Living or Country Living magazines or sites might give you some additional ideas of how to use them for decor.

You could,of course, use them for canning fruit or preserves, but making sure there were no nicks and that the gaskets were good might make the process more difficult than just getting new jars. I used old glass jars to store everything from macaroni to lentils in the kitchen as well. They keep the contents dry and keep bugs out if they have a good gasket. We live in a very dry environment, so it isn’t as important now as it was when we lived in East Texas and Arkansas.
