Hi there DJ Krush Shadow. How’s it going?

Chinoiseries is such a stunning album. Different, but it really works. Have you checked out his new one? Long Distance. More like a funk or soul album than hip hop. It’s not as good, but it still has moments that make you go “wow”. The Shlohmo, Kankick and Pilote albums are of course special too. I’ve heard real good things about that Kno album from various people so I’m determined to give it a try. Okay, to answer your question.

1 – Teebs – Ardour (same label as Flying Lotus and Samiyam! Fire!)
2 – Letherette – BTS Radio Showcase (skip to 4.45 and prepare to weep)
3 – Knxwledge – Skrawberries (love the offbeat)
4 – Various – Disposable Music Sampler Volume 1

Global G-2 - 8 inch, 20cm Chef's Knife

Global G-2 – 8 inch, 20cm Chef’s Knife

$105.95

High tech from tip to handle, Global knives from Japan created a sensation when they burst onto the world’s culinary stage as an alternative to traditional European-style cutlery. Blades are made of hard molybdenum/vanadium stainless steel and “face-ground” with a long taper rather than a short bevel so edges remain sharp longer than even the best high-carbon stainless-steel knives. Edges also are…

Metallica

Metallica

$10.35

Called “the Black Album” by many (due to its monochrome cover), Metallica marks the group’s entrance into the mainstream, with shorter songs, simpler song structures, and slower tempos overall. That said, this is an excellent album, featuring some of the best songwriting Metallica has ever done. “Enter Sandman,” “Wherever I May Roam,” and “God That Failed,” despite being slower and more groove-ori…

S&M

S&M

$16.49

At a point in their career when most bands would rest their laurels upon a greatest-hits package or live album, Metallica has done both, but with a decidedly loopy twist. They’ve recorded a double-live greatest-hits package with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra “sitting in.” Rock history and cutout bins are littered with previous attempts at a rock-symphonic fusion, from Emerson, Lake & Palmer…

4 Way Street (Jewel Box)

4 Way Street (Jewel Box)

$19.58

This is one of those albums where you’ll want to cherry-pick favorites. Recorded live when the supergroup was at its commercial zenith, it’s sloppy in spots where precision is called for. And the hyperbolic counterculture rants sound a bit silly these days (Bellows Stills: “Jesus Christ was the first nonviolent revolutionary! Ah, dig it, dig it!”). On the other hand, the electric jams are enlivene…

The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer [VHS]

The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer [VHS]

$10.99

“You remind me of a man.” “What man?” “The man with the power….” Ah, so you remember the lovely nonsense of The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer. This lighter-than-air comedy puts playboy writer Cary Grant in company with 17-year-old schoolgirl Shirley Temple, although he’s more interested in older sister Myrna Loy. (She’s as sober as a judge, and indeed is one.) The Oscar®- winning script by f…

Inherit the Wind [VHS]

Inherit the Wind [VHS]

$3.71

Two of the juiciest roles in the American theater fall at the feet of Spencer Tracy and Fredric March, and both men make a meal of it. Inherit the Wind, based on the play by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee, is a slightly fictionalized account of the Scopes Monkey Trial, that galvanizing legal drama of the 1920s. When a young Tennessee teacher is prosecuted for teaching the theory of evolution in…

Sands of Iwo Jima [VHS]

Sands of Iwo Jima [VHS]

$0.49

John Wayne’s old studio home, Republic, made this 1949 drama about the heroic capture of an important island in the Pacific by marines in World War II. Director Allan Dwan (Brewster’s Millions), a pioneering filmmaker from the silent days of cinema who easily crossed over into sound, handles the action sequences like a consummate pro, while Wayne works hard as the tough sergeant molding new recrui…
